This is the camphor chemotype of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor), a Mediterranean shrub and one of the classic herbes de Provence. Steam-distilled from the flowering tops, it has a fresh, camphoraceous, balsamic aroma and is the rosemary of choice for the body: diluted into a carrier it makes a warming, reviving massage oil for tired muscles and joints, especially before and after exercise. Because it is naturally rich in camphor, it is a potent oil to use with care.
