An organic Portuguese infusion of rosemary, linden flower and apple — caffeine-free, and the most savoury and unusual of the CRIATURA blends.
Rosemary as a drink surprises people. Most of us only meet it on roast potatoes, and the idea of infusing it seems odd until you try it: resinous, piney and slightly camphorous, closer to walking through a Mediterranean hillside than to any conventional tea. It is not a soft flavour, and it is much better for that — the blend is genuinely interesting rather than merely comforting.
A small botanical note. Rosemary changed its name recently. For centuries it was Rosmarinus officinalis; in 2017, genetic work established that it sits firmly inside the sage genus, and it was formally reclassified as Salvia rosmarinus. Botanists accepted it; almost nobody else has noticed. The old name means “dew of the sea”, after the plant's habit of growing on coastal cliffs.
The memory association is very old and the evidence is very thin. “There's rosemary, that's for remembrance” — Ophelia says it in Hamlet, and Greek students are said to have worn rosemary garlands while studying. A handful of small modern studies have looked at rosemary aroma and cognitive performance with mildly interesting results, but they are small, mixed, and nowhere near sufficient to claim anything. It is a lovely piece of cultural history. It is not a nootropic, and we will not sell it as one.
Linden softens the rosemary's resinous edge with its honeyed, faintly mucilaginous body, and apple brings the sweetness that keeps the whole thing drinkable. Without those two, rosemary alone would be austere.
Caffeine-free. The EU authorises no health claims for botanicals of this kind, and we make none. Available at Só Verde, an organic concept store in Foz, Porto.
