An organic energy drink from Höllinger, the Austrian family juice house, made with natural caffeine extracted from organic coffee beans rather than synthetic caffeine, and flavoured with apple juice and blackberry.
What is in it, and what is not
Water, organic sugar, apple juice from concentrate, carbon dioxide, citric acid, natural blackberry flavouring, sodium citrates, caramelised sugar syrup and caffeine. What is not in it is as much to the point: no taurine, no synthetic vitamin cocktail, no artificial colours, no artificial sweeteners.
How much caffeine, in plain terms
A 250 ml can contains 75 mg of caffeine — about the same as a good espresso, and rather less than a large filter coffee. It is not an unusually strong energy drink; it is an ordinary coffee's worth, in a cold, fizzy form.
For reference, the European Food Safety Authority considers single doses up to 200 mg and daily intakes up to 400 mg unproblematic for most healthy adults. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, the recommended daily limit is 200 mg from all sources.
Please note
High caffeine content. Not recommended for children or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Caffeine sensitivity varies a great deal between individuals; if it keeps you awake, the effect lasts far longer than most people assume — half of a dose is still circulating five to six hours later.
Serving
Cold, from the fridge. The apple and blackberry give it a fruitier, less medicinal flavour than the standard category, and it is noticeably less sweet than most.
