An honest note about alum and aluminium
This matters and it is very often glossed over, so we would rather be straight about it. Alum is an aluminium compound. Potassium alum is potassium aluminium sulphate — aluminium is in the name and in the molecule. Alum stone deodorants are frequently marketed as aluminium-free, and that is simply not accurate.
What is true is that alum is a different aluminium compound from the aluminium chlorohydrate used in conventional antiperspirants, it is a much larger molecule, and it works differently: it is antibacterial rather than pore-blocking. That is a real distinction and it is a reasonable reason to prefer it. "Contains no aluminium" is not.
It is also worth saying that the widely repeated link between aluminium antiperspirants and breast cancer is not supported by the evidence, and major cancer research organisations say so. If you prefer alum, prefer it because you like how it works — not out of a fear that has not held up.
Deodorant, not antiperspirant
This is a deodorant. It works on the bacteria that turn sweat into smell, and it will not stop you sweating — nothing without an aluminium chlorohydrate-type salt will. Sweat itself is nearly odourless; the smell comes from skin bacteria breaking it down. If your problem is wetness rather than odour, a deodorant is not the answer, and genuinely excessive sweating is a treatable medical condition worth discussing with a doctor.
